Lady of the Woods

  • Easy

This compelling rock art is named for an unfinished sculpture of a woman embracing a large volcanic boulder in a hemlock forest. In 1917 a doctor named Earl Russell Bush was staying in nearby housing helping to build the Rim Drive and at the end of the season he stayed on for two extra weeks to carve, his first attempt at sculpting. He left the piece unfinished. Self-guiding brochures for the loop are available at the trailhead behind the Steel Visitor Center. http://www.craterlakeinstitute.com/index-of-general-cultural-history-books/park-structures/lady-of-the-woods/
